Your Dream Trip To Bali

Explore Bali beyond the tourist trail — ancient temples, volcanic highlands, and village life, with a small group and a local guide by your side.

Highlands

Cycle through backstreet villages, stay with a local family in Sibetan, walk ancient Salak plantations, and fall asleep to the sound of the caldera at the foot of Mount Batur — this is the Bali most visitors never see.

Sanur

Trade the mountains for the coast. Unwind along Sanur’s beachfront promenade, soak in a lakeside hot spring, and come together for a farewell dinner before heading home with a full heart.

A journey through Bali like no other.

The Bali Experience

This isn’t your average Bali trip. Yes, you’ll see the iconic rice terraces and sacred temples but you’ll also experience the Bali that most travelers rush right past.

You’ll cook with a local family, sleep in a village homestay, cycle through backstreets untouched by tourism, and watch the sun rise over a volcanic caldera. You’ll eat bungkus lunch wrapped in banana leaves, learn traditional weaving, and share a farewell dinner with the people you’ve traveled alongside.

We’ve designed this trip to go deeper and we’ve upgraded the accommodations to make sure you do it all in comfort.

What we’ll do

Day 1: Arrive in Ubud + Welcome Meeting
Airport pickup and private transfer to your hotel in Ubud; Bali’s cultural heart. Meet your group leader and fellow travelers for a welcome meeting at 6:00 PM. The evening is yours to explore Ubud’s restaurants and night markets.

Day 2: Cooking Class + Temple Purification Ritual
Start the day at a local market, then head into a hands-on Balinese cooking class. You’ll be preparing and eating a full lunch of traditional dishes. In the afternoon, continue to Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple for a sacred purification ritual set among natural spring pools and tropical greenery.

Day 3: Free Day in Ubud
A day to breathe. Explore Ubud’s art galleries, boutique markets, Monkey Forest and scenic rice fields at your own pace or simply unwind at the hotel.

Day 4: Countryside Cycling + Sidemen Village
Hop on a bike and ride through backstreets, villages, and rice fields. It’s a relatively easy, mostly downhill route with plenty of photo stops and small carved temples along the way. In the afternoon, travel to the hillside village of Undisan, set against the dramatic backdrop of Mt. Agung.

Day 5: Undisan Village Walk + Sibetan Homestay
Take a morning walk through Undisan’s rice terraces, visiting local craftspeople and village temples, then enjoy a traditional “bungkus” lunch. Continue to Sibetan Village, where the chief gives you a warm welcome. Check into your homestay, then spend the evening sharing dinner and stories with the local community.

Day 6: Salak Plantation + Lake Batur + Glamping
Walk through an ancient Salak plantation with a local guide, learning about centuries-old heritage plants. Lunch is traditional Tipat Blayag, rice wrapped in young coconut leaves with chicken and vegetables. Then drive up to a fishing village on the edge of Lake Batur, where the volcanic caldera is a spectacular sight. Tonight: glamping at Alam Caldera.

Day 7: Hot Springs at Mt. Batur + Transfer to Sanur
A relaxed morning soaking in naturally heated pools with views over the volcanic lake. Then a scenic drive to Sanur on Bali’s southern coast, where you’ll have two nights to unwind. (Optional: early-morning Mt. Batur sunrise trek available for those seeking adventure.)

Day 8: Free Day in Sanur + Farewell Dinner
Your day is wide open. You can wander the beachfront promenade, swim, get a massage, or take a day trip to the nearby island. In the evening, join the group for a farewell dinner to celebrate the journey and the friendships made along the way.

Day 9: Departure
After breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport. Take home unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a deep love for the Island of the Gods.

Where you’ll Rest Your Head

Every detail of this trip has been designed with comfort in mind, including where you sleep.

We’ve specifically selected upgraded accommodations throughout the itinerary so that you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without sacrificing the comfort you deserve at the end of a full day.

Most nights are in upgraded hotel rooms. A couple of nights are intentionally more rustic — the homestay and the glamping are highlights of the trip, not compromises.

Meet Intrepid

I’ve loved partnering with Intrepid Travel to bring these group trips to life. They go above and beyond to help me create experiences that feel just like how I travel—local, meaningful, and a little off the tourist trail.

They help me stick to a realistic budget without sacrificing quality, so you get an unforgettable trip that doesn’t break the bank.

And since Intrepid is a certified B-Corp, you can feel good knowing your travel dollars support ethical, sustainable tourism that benefits local communities.

Is Bali right for you? Probably.

What I love about hosting group trips is creating experiences that are genuinely memorable. Bali, with its layered culture, volcanic landscapes, and some of the warmest hospitality in the world, is one of those places where every single day surprises you. A village elder welcoming you for dinner. A purification ritual at dawn. Falling asleep under the stars at an open-air glamping site on the edge of a caldera.

This is the kind of trip where you’ll walk through rice fields planted by hand for centuries, share meals with local families, and connect with a small group of curious travelers just like you.

That said, here are a few things to know to make sure this trip is the right fit:

  • This is an active itinerary. You’ll cycle through villages, walk rice terraces, and cover a lot of ground across the island.
  • Bali can be unpredictable in the best way. Expect heat, humidity, and some wonderfully unscripted moments.
  • Some experiences (the homestay, the glamping night) are rustic by design. They are absolutely the highlight of the trip but they’re not five-star hotel nights.
  • We’ll be visiting temples and traditional villages where modest dress is required. Covered shoulders and knees are a must for both men and women.
  • You’ll want to bring your appetite. Balinese food culture is deeply connected to community and ceremony, and you’ll be eating a lot of both.
  • Cultural norms are different here. Openness and curiosity are your greatest travel tools.

If you’re ready for history, hospitality, and a whole lot of heart… this trip is for you.
