Spend a weekend in Oklahoma City

Best Hotels in Oklahoma City

With Oklahoma City being such a walkable town, there are a lot of great hotels within a couple of miles of many major attractions. But, your hotel is largely dependent on what neighborhood you want to stay in. The most common neighborhood and the one you’ll find the most hotel options in is Bricktown, located close to downtown and the riverfront. But there are some other options you should consider like, Paseo, Uptown, and the Arts District.

Here are a few of my favorite choices:

Fordson Hotel (my pick!)
$$

21C Oklahoma City hotel room
The Fordson is located in an old Ford plant. The windows are amazingly big and the ceilings are just as high as they were when the building was a plant.

My top choice!

I loved the Fordson hotel and I know you will, too.

I loved staying here on my visit to Oklahoma City. This is a converted Ford plant with huge windows and high ceilings. It’s certainly a specific design and I’m here for it! This hotel is now owned by Hyatt so if you have World of Hyatt points you can book it for free. If not, consider booking direct to earn some points for future hotel stays.

Airbnb in the Paseo Arts District
$

The paseo District is what might be considered by some other cities as the arts district. It’s funky and hip with great restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance of the surrounding neighborhoods. An Airbnb in this neighborhood will cost you around $80-90 a night. If you don’t have a car, I don’t recommend staying in this neighborhood unless you’re willing to take a rideshare around town outside of the district, as there is not a streetcar that operates in this neighborhood.

Hilton Garden Inn
$$

There are many hotel options in the Bricktown neighborhood that will be close to many things to do and restaurants in Oklahoma City, this is just one suggestion. This neighborhood will put you close to many bars and restaurants and the waterfront.

Getting Around Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City is a pretty walkable city, but many people still choose to drive. That being said, as a tourist most major attractions can be seen by walking between them.

You can also access most of Oklahoma City by streetcar. The car only costs $3 for a 24-hour pass and connects Bricktown to Midtown with a variety of stops between.

The Oklahoma City Streetcar system connects most of the major attractions and is $3 for a 24-hour pass.

Where to Eat

FRIDA Southwest
$$$

Consider yourself lucky if you get the chance to eat at FRIDA.

I had one of the best dinners I’ve had this year at FRIDA. If you want an upscale dining experience in the Paseo District then this is your place. Everything on the menu – from cocktails to appetizers to entrees to desserts are well-executed and interesting. Infusing a new-age idea of Southwest cuisine, FRIDA will leave you wanting to come back.

Riviere Modern Banh Mi
$

This cute restaurant isn’t a showstopper on the outside, but they are serving up some good classic Vietnamese food as well as some interesting fusion Banh Mi sandwiches, like a french dip-inspired one with pho broth to dip.

Holey Roller
$

Whenever you see a lot of locals lined up for a donut, you know it must be good. Holey Roller makes scratch-made donuts, with a variety of options to choose from. One of the local favorites is the maple almond

Prelude Coffee Roasters
$

Located in the 8th Street Market, this cute coffee shop is also home to a well-curated bookstore. Locals and tourists agree that this is the best cup of coffee available in town.

Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes
$$

Serving upscale Mexican dishes, Barrios is a cool local restaurant. The food is as pretty as it is good with perfect cocktails to pair.

Elemental Coffee
$

Cute coffee shop located next door to the Riviere Modern Banh Mi, this coffee shop is worth a stop for breakfast. Try their cheesy eggs – you won’t be disappointed.

The Garage Burgers and Beer
$

With all burgers under $10, this burger chain is a local favorite for good reason.

Things to Do

Oklahoma City Bombing Museum and Memorial

Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial
The Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial is a beautifully done tribute to the victims.

The $15 adult entry fee is well worth it to visit the Oklahoma City Bombing Museum and Memorial. The museum is powerful at storytelling through its narrative format. If you don’t have time or want to pay for the museum, the memorial grounds are free to visit. They are peaceful and beautifully manicured showcasing artistic versions of chairs for each victim of the bombing.

RetroPub

With a $10 or two drink minimum, RetoPub is a great place to spend a late afternoon playing a few hours of cheap entertainment. The pub includes legit Slush Puppies, a vintage Blockbuster stand and plenty of arcade games.

Factory Obscura

Factory Obscura in Oklahoma City outside of building
Factory Obscura is a must-do for kids and adults alike on a visit to Oklahoma City!

Consider this the weirdest dream you’ve ever had, this brainchild of a group of local artists creates interesting touch-the-art displays throughout a maze of themed rooms. General admission is $20 and includes 3-D glasses that will make the experience…. trippy. Every third Thursday from 7-10p, Factory Obscura is for adults only.

Visit the art galleries in the Paseo District

With a long list of local artists selling artistic goodies ranging from handcrafted jewelry to pottery to paintings, these colorful buildings in the Paseo District are a great way to spend an afternoon in Oklahoma City.

Riversport OKC

Riversport OKC has a variety of sporting activities available on and off the riverfront. Water tubing, paddle boarding, and zip lining are just a few of the many options available. You can register for an all-day pass to every land and water activity for $80 per person.

Myriad Botanical Gardens

The Myriad Botanical Gardens includes a beautifully designed Crystal Bridge Conservatory in the middle of 15 acres of pristine greens and water features. The grounds and Conservatory are completely free for visitors.

Stockyards City Main Street

Live life the cowboy way, if only for a few blocks southwest of Oklahoma City. Stockyards City hosts a variety of events and businesses through a historic strip of the cattle market. What makes the Stockyards the most fascinating is that many of the original businesses from 1909 are still around today.

Oklahoma City Museum of Art

Located near many other major attractions downtown, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art showcases a variety of artistic pieces but has a large and distinctive collection of American art. Tickets are $15 for adults to visit but the museum is a part of the Bank of America Museum on Us program.
