10 Things to do in Kentucky for couples

Join a river cruise

With many amazing waterways across Kentucky it’s no surprise there are some incredible river cruises. You can explore Cincinnati with an Ohio River dinner cruise or maybe a bourbon cruise in Frankfort. This is certainly a neat and special way to see Kentucky that you probably have never considered!

Spend an overnight in a unique stay in the Gorge

Red River Gorge is the perfect place for a getaway with your significant other. With some incredible, unique stays at affordable prices it’s the perfect getaway for a night or two. I love how you can make the Gorge a romantic getaway for little money close to home.

There are so many amazing stays near Red River Gorge you should check out. Keep in mind that weekends sell out quickly and nights are more expensive. So if you can make a couple weekdays work you’ll save money and have more availability, too!

Bonus! While at the Gorge explore the area through Geocaching. This is a great free way to get out and explore anywhere but especially good in natural areas, like Red River Gorge.

Head out to Bowling Green for a Trolley Tour

Bowling Green is known for its quaint downtown with great foods. And this trolley tour is one of the most unique ways to explore Bowling Green. (I mean, how cute is traveling around in a historic trolley?)

Try new foods on a local food tour

If you wish you had seven stomachs then you need to be on more food tours. My husband and I love getting to explore more foods than we ever could in a single night through food tours. You can join this incredible NuLu tour in Louisville of this one hosted by my friends in Lexington

You’ll probably find some hidden gems you didn’t know were right in your backyard, too. Then you have some new restaurants to try after the tour, too!

Take a cocktail class together

There are a lot of great cocktail classes throughout Kentucky but this one at NuLu Whiskies in Louisville has been a favorite of mine for some time. You can also take classes at Bulleit in Shelbyville, which offers classes a handful of days during the week.

I love the idea of learning a skill together and why not get to do it with Kentucky’s spirit, bourbon?

Book a goat picnic (seriously)

For whatever reason experiences with goats have become all the rage and you can actually book a picnic at a farm, complete with goats. It’s fun, it’s unique, and it will certainly surprise your partner. Romantic things come in all shapes and sizes and this is certainly a date to remember.

Get into the arts

Taking a pottery or glass blowing class together are both great ways to get creative and try something new. FlameRun in Louisville is a popular glass blowing studio for beginners to take introductory classes.

I like art classes because it’s something different that you probably don’t experience in your everyday life together and the creative process can bring up new conversations through the arts.

Spend the day at the lake

Lake Cumberland is probably the most popular lake destination in Kentucky but you could also explore Green River Lake, Cave Run Lake, or even Taylorsville Lake. Many marinas offer day boat rentals, cabins, and even houseboat rentals.

Keep in mind most marinas close seasonally so you’ll need to plan this trip around mid-spring to mid-fall.

Explore the Kentucky Bourbon Trail

One of mine and my husband’s personal favorite things to do in Kentucky is getting out to explore all the incredible distilleries around Kentucky. The Bourbon Trail provides a lot of different tours, classes, and even overnight stays.

Take the time to have a bourbon tasting at bourbon distilleries like Buffalo Trace or Woodford Reserve, or perhaps visit Bardstown Bourbon Company to have their amazing sprouts and grits. You can have some incredible cocktails at Bulleit and Willet. All to say the possibilities on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail are endless.

Stay at a local horse farm

Farmstays are becoming increasingly popular in Kentucky and for good reason. Cerulean Farm is one of the most popular farmstays, located outside Louisville in beautiful Shelbyville. Getaways like this are a great way to get a new perspective of Kentucky.

If you’re into ecotourism and learning more about how the agricultural industry works in Kentucky this can be a unique stay but horse farms are also just beautiful, right?

Bonus! Book a Getaway

My husband and I absolutely love the Getaway cabins, which have unique tiny homes in remote locations around the country. If you really want to disconnect with the outside world and reconnect with your partner there is no better way to do it than a Getaway.

There are two Getaways offered near Kentucky, one in Indiana and another in Tennessee. Check their website to find the best option for you!
