The Easiest Way to Find the Best Travel Insurance
Even for an expert traveler, travel insurance is super confusing. One Google search for the “best” leads to dozens of brands with complicated formulas and constant emails upselling you products you don’t need. The worst part? As a consumer you have to visit all these travel insurance providers and compare options yourself. But! There is an easier way. Travel Insurance Master compiles some of the top brands into an easy to understand comparison chart on one webpage. It is by far the easiest way to find the best travel insurance for your next travel adventure.

Why I Buy Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is one of those trip purchases that you don’t realize you need until you really need it. In 2017, while on my honeymoon in Southeast Asia I became very, very sick. Before I knew it, a Cambodian doctor was in my hotel room loading me with eight bags of fluids while I dozed in and out of conciseness. It was one of the worst moments of my life. As a healthy, young person I never dreamed a small amount of tainted water would have me almost in a body bag.
I was so fortunate to have purchased insurance for our honeymoon. Because that travel insurance reimbursed me for $1000 in late-night medical care from a fantastic Cambodian doctor who quite literally saved my life. Since that moment, I never travel abroad without it to protect me and my family from medical emergencies becoming financial emergencies.
What Does Travel Insurance Cover?
Travel insurance can cover a variety of travel-related claims. At is most basic level, it covers risk and expenses lost due to disruptions and illness. Though many people think of the extremes (like my own experience in Cambodia) it can be as simple as a 6-hour flight delay covering your meals or missing luggage expenses. There are also packages that can cover work reasons or even let you cancel and receive a refund for any reason.
It’s important to know that most US health insurances don’t cover medical care in foreign countries. And if your insurance does, it likely only covers some basic expenses. Travel insurance ensures that you are covered in case of a medical emergency while abroad and works similar to US health insurances.
Typically, travel insurance companies are set up with a reimbursement format. You pay your incurred expenses and file a claim for reimbursement after the fact. It’s always a good idea to call the insurance company’s phone number before making any payments and speak to a representative about how the process will work and what’s covered in detail.
What is Travel Insurance Master?
Travel Insurance Master (TIM) is a platform that conveniently connects users to multiple travel insurance options from some of the best companies available through one platform. TIM asks for some basic information about your upcoming travel plans. Then they match you to providers with transparent pricing in one place. Once you see all your options, you can add additional details, like what cancellations you want covered (hurricane & weather, employment layoff, cancel for any reason, etc.) and the amount of insurance you want for things like lost baggage and trip delay. This can be super helpful if you have a great travel insurance credit card, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred. It can help ensure you are not over insured.
Most importantly, TIM does not charge any additional fees for comparing policy options for you. The price you see if the price you’d pay directly with each insurance company.
How to Use Travel Insurance Master
I recently booked travel insurance for an upcoming trip to Mexico for Thanksgiving 2021. Their platform is super intuitive for all types of travelers to find the right insurance options. Here’s how to easily find your insurance, too.
Step 1: Visit TravelInsuranceMaster.com
Step 2: Add basic information about your trip plans
On your first page, you only need to add your specific travel dates, destination and trip cost (pre-paid and nonrefundable expenses).
Step 3: Add details about the travelers
Like any insurance, your age will affect your insurance price.
Step 4: View the chart of policy options and compare
You can use the filters on the left side to make sure you are getting the best options for your travel needs. For example, if you have a job that might require you to cancel your trip suddenly, you could select the “cancel for work reasons” or “cancel for any reason” options.
Step 5: Select and purchase your policy
For my trip to Mexico I selected GoReady. GoReady cost me $32 and I received $50,000 in emergency medical 100% of the trip reimbursed if we cannot go.
It's important to know what travel insurance you already have with the credit cards you use to book your trip. I always book my airfare with my Chase Sapphire Preferred because of its amazing trip cancellation / interruption insurance included with the card. Though I think the card is great for flight delays, etc. the medical insurance is fairly limited and you can't cancel for any reason.
