Getting around Bangkok is much easier than you might expect. With three main ways of getting from Bangkok Airport to the city, this helpful guide will talk you through all your options. (Keep in mind this guide is for BKK airport.)

How to get to the city by train

The Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link is the easiest way to connect to the city but perhaps not the most convenient to get to your hotel, depending on where youโ€™re staying. The Rail Link has 6 stops, then ends at Phaya Thai Station. This station is the busiest and likely closest to your hotel but do check your Google Maps.

Depending on where you get on the Rail Link will determine the price youโ€™ll pay. If you ride all 7 stops the train costs 45 BHT. The train takes less than 30 minutes for the entire route. Making it the most economical and quick option into the city.

How do I find the train at Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Once you pass immigration and secure your luggage follow the signage to the โ€œTrain to City.โ€ After arriving at the train area youโ€™ll need to buy your ticket from one of the machines nearby, which are in Thai and English.

What do I do after I get into the city?

If your hotel is close enough from the train station you can easily walk but if itโ€™s not you have a few options:

  • First, you could simply call a Grab (similar to Uber) and have someone take you directly to your hotel from the train station.
  • Or, you could take the public bus or other train lines. If you plan on taking public transportation use Google Maps to find the best directions. (In Bangkok it will include the public bus system as well as trains.)

How to get to the city by taxi

Bangkokโ€™s Suvarnabhumi Airport includes a public taxi station with fixed-rate drivers. Youโ€™ll need to make your way to a taxi counter (located near entrances 3, 4, 7 and 8) on the ground level of the airport. The person at the counter will ask your destination and give you a number. Basically youโ€™ll be given a number and when it shows on the screen your driver is ready for you.

Taxis are a fixed rate of 50 baht plus the metered cost, which will range from around 300 to 500 baht for a transfer into the city.

How to get to the city by private transfer

If youโ€™re anything like me, after a long day of traveling to Thailand, getting to your hotel without any thoughts or concerns might be the easiest way to go.

There are many companies offering private transfers between BKK and your hotel all of which are around the same price. Booking a private transfer includes door to door service that makes it convenient but also the most expensive option.
